I love making this Ginger Turmeric Herbal Tea on cold days to provide some much-needed warmth to my body. It is also my go-to home remedy when anyone in the family feels under the weather.Β It’s what my Ba (grandmother) made for her family, and what my mom made for us growing up. If anyone was feeling under the weather, you knew there would be Khichdi cooking and Ginger Turmeric Herbal Tea brewing.

This herbal tea recipe is easy to make and uses 5 ingredients that are simple but packed with health benefits!
Ginger –Β Ginger, which is closely related to turmeric, has been used in alternative or ayurvedic medicine for thousands of years.Β According to Healthline, gingerol is the main bioactive component of ginger and is the source of ginger’s powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Ginger is known to fight nausea, aid in digestion, and fight the common cough and cold.
Turmeric –Β Turmeric has been touted by Ayurvedic medicine for its healing properties.Β According to Medical News Today, curcumin is the active ingredient in turmeric that helps to treat inflammatory conditions, skin diseases, wounds, digestive ailments, and liver conditions.
Lemon –Β Lemon is well known for being packed with vitamins, nutrients, and antioxidants.Β According to the Cleveland Clinic, adding lemon to your daily diet is extremely beneficial for aiding in digestion, weight loss, and fighting off disease.
Agave Syrup or Honey (optional)

I love the sweet and salty flavors in this herbal tea, but it is definitely not necessary.Β Omit the salt if you are conscious of your sodium intake.Β Forget about the agave syrup if you’re keeping an eye on your sugar intake.Β The key ingredients are Ginger, Turmeric, and some type of citrus fruit (lemon, limes, oranges, etc)
How to Make This Recipe
In a teacup or coffee mug, add grated ginger, turmeric powder, lemon juice, and optional agave syrup and salt.Β Add boiling water and stir. Allow this mixture to steep for about 1-2 minutes. You can strain the grated ginger out if you don’t like the texture of the grated ginger in your tea.

- Boil water or use hot water tap
