We’re right smack dab in the middle of summer and my heart feels a sense of nostalgia for “the way it was”.Β During my childhood, my family spent most summer weekends at the various beaches, parks and forest preserves in Chicago.Β We would grill, eat, play volleyball, ride a paddleboat, play softball, go for a swim, spread out a blanket and play cards, and even nap.Β Β Sometimes, it would just be my parents and my brother. Other times, it would be a gathering of 4-5 families.Β And at least twice a year, we would have a community gathering of at least 200 people!Β But one thing remained constant, spicy masala corn on the cob!!Β It is one of the tastiest ways to eat grilled corn, IMHO!
Spicy Masala Corn On the Cob Ingredients
The main ingredient for this Spicy Masala Corn On The Cob is, well… corn on the cob.Β During the summer months, grocery stores practically give it away!Β Corn is actually a grain that is quite rich in vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants and it’s full of fiber.Β When picking corn, you want to opt for the organic, pesticide-free variety.Β The other ingredients include salt, lemon juice, paprika, red chili powder, and optional butter.Β This recipe is so mouth-watering delicious when you mix and spread the spices on grilled corn.
Most Indian spices like turmeric and paprika can be found at your local grocery store.Β You can also get your hands on an Indian spice container with all the essential Indian spices here.Β It contains most of the traditional spices you would need to cook almost any Indian meal.Β In this recipe, we’ll use paprika and red chili powder.
The Method
This Spicy Masala Corn On The Cob recipe is easy peasy.Β We’ll first de-husk the corn.Β Then, we’ll grill the corn.Β Once the corn is grilled, we’ll apply butter.Β You can omit this step for a vegan option.Β Then, apply lemon juice and sprinkle the salt and spices.
On a side note, my sister-in-law’s family visited Singh Farms, a local farm in the Phoenix area, a few weeks ago.Β Mr. Singh told her that when he was growing up, he would eat corn straight off the cob uncooked!Β She brought some corn back for us, we tried it, and man oh man!Β Uncooked corn on the cob tastes so rich and creamy!Β So go ahead, give it a try.
Spicy Masala Corn On The Cob
Ingredients
- 6 corn on the cob, organic
- butter, omit if vegan
- lemon juice
- salt to taste
- paprika
- red chili powder, adjust per spice level
Instructions
- Dehusk the corn
- Cooking methods are to grill the corn on a barbeque, or boil the corn in hot water (see Note 2)
- Once corn is cooked, spread butter. Omit this step if vegan.
- Rub some lemon juice on the corn.
- Sprinkle salt, paprika and red chili powder.
Notes
- I did not include exact measurements of the spices.Β You basically want to sprinkle on as much as you like based on your personal preference.Β If you like it lemony, use more lemon.Β If you like it spicy, use more red chili powder.Β
- If your corn is organic, clean and free from pesticides, you can actually eat the corn on the cob raw.Β The taste is so creamy and buttery, but without the butter and cream!
